In the Netherlands we have a number of generally recognized public holidays: New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday, both Christmas days, King's Day and sometimes Liberation Day in lustrum years.
If you do not work on a weekday holiday due to the closure of the company where you work, you may be eligible for a public holiday allowance. The payment of this compensation depends on your contract or your work history in the previous 13 weeks on the weekday of the holiday.
